CliftonLarsonAllen, LLP, a public accounting firm, realizes that trust is a critical part of developing a supportive workplace and providing flexibility to employees. Nearly all of their employees can choose to formally work a reduced, flexible or compressed schedule or telecommute. Staff members are cross-trained so that employees whose jobs require them to be in the office can take advantage of some form of flexibility. This, along with maximized technology, enables nearly every staff member to be able to work flexibly. Service desk employees can also use technology to log into the phone queue from home during inclement weather. Older employees who wish to ease out of the workforce or reenter the workforce on a limited basis are offered options within the company. The firm’s “alumni” are also offered seasonal part-time work when the need for extra help arises. Leaders believe the best way to serve clients is by trusting employees to deliver results rather than putting in face time. In order to develop their employees, leaders work with staff member from before they enter the firm to help them better understand each career path and how the experiences they will go through will help direct the path they choose.
